A painter and printmaker, Wakilur Rahman (b. 1961, Bangladesh) has been dividing his time between Dhaka and Berlin since 1988. His interest in Bengali calligraphy, especially in the play of word-forms, alphabet shapes, and the relationship between the sounds of the spoken words and their visual connotation, has led to a unique body of recent work. Rahman graduated from the Bangladesh College of Arts and Crafts, Dhaka, and received an MFA from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, 1984-1986. His awards include Annual International Exhibition of Miniature Art, Toronto (1989), Best Award (Graphic Media), Young Artists' Art Exhibition, Dhaka (1994), Norwegian International Print Triennale, Fredrikstad (1995), Agricola-Preis für Kunst und Wissenschaft, Glauchau, Germany (1996), Best Award (All Media), Young Artists' Art Exhibition, Dhaka (1996), AB Bank Award, National Exhibition, Dhaka, among others.
