“Making Print in Australia” a talk by Michael Kempson, held at Gyantapas Abdur Razzaq Bidyapeeth. Kempson discussed the contemporary practice of print making in Australia as well as his own artistic approach.
Artist Michael Kempson prints, examples of print works from the students of UNSW (University of New South Wales) Art & Design in Sydney and the prints made by the participant artists from the workshop titled “Connect” was also displayed in the open studio of the Gyantapas Abdur Razzaq Bidyapeeth premises.
Michael Kempson is a Senior Lecturer and Convenor of Printmaking Studies at the University of New South Wales Art & Design in Sydney. He is also an advisory board member of the International Academic Printmaking Alliance, formed in Beijing (2016) and was the International Member at Large for the Southern Graphics Council International (2014-2016). He was recently invited to deliver the keynote address at the IMPACT 10 Encounters conference in Santander, Spain (2018). Working since 1983 with 30 solo and over 200 group exhibitions, Kempson’s most recent solo exhibitions have been Child’s Play at Triskel Arts Centre, Cork, Ireland (2017), Michael Kempson: Work and Play at Song Ya Feng Art Centre, Beijing, China (2017), Garter Lane Arts Centre, Waterford City, Ireland (2018) and Davidson Galleries, Seattle in the USA (2018).
Kempson’s work is represented in the Museum of Contemporary Art, Bangkok, Thailand; National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei; National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; and many Australian state and regional galleries. Kempson has developed work with over 200 Australian and international artists including: Rokeya Sultana, Adeel uz Zafar, Vernon Ah Kee, Fiona Hall, Judy Watson, Reg Mombassa, Michael Nelson Jagamara, Tim Storrier, Fiona Foley, Elisabeth Cummings, Dale Harding, Euan Macleod, Tony Albert, John Olsen, Julie Gough, Martha MacDonald Napaltjarri, Kevin Connor, Gordon Hookey, John Coburn, Tilau Nangala, James Gleeson, Raymond Zada, Vic Chapman, Laurel Nannup and many more.
