Qayyum Chowdhury continues in this exhibition his life-long quest for the colours, fragrance and forms of his native land. The artist's signature semi-abstract style blends figures of peasants or birds with a litany of colorful motives borrowed to local traditions and folklore. Chowdhury's meandering canvases invite to a journey similar to the ones the painter undertook in his youth within the greater Bengal region, across fairs, popular festivals and religious rituals. At once suggestive and full of mysterious allusions, Chowdhury's works testifies of his symbiosis with the cultural diversity of his homeland.
